Dinosaur BBQ restaurant in Syracuse is a well-known biker bar that serves great grub and the beer flows freely. My kind of place. We didn’t ride over here (we took the much more boring form of transportation also known as walking), but we did come across too many motorcycles to count parked all around the place. Upon first inspection, this quirky restaurant seemed very out of place for Syracuse, but after crossing the front lines and walking in the door, I could see why people, locals and visitors alike, flock here for a fun time and great barbecue.
When we stepped into the restaurant, there was barely room to move. The place was packed. There was music blasting from the speakers and everyone seemed to be in deep passionate conversations. Kenin and I grabbed a table and ordered some drinks.
The staff here at Dinosaur are very used to the place being busy. Our beers arrived promptly and we ordered an appetizer to get started. This beautiful tray of crispy fries smothered in gravy and topped with pulled pork gets delivered to our table. It took all of the will power I had to not put my fingers in there before Kenin could snap a photo. Piping hot and delicious, this Pulled Pork Poutine met its demise before our entrees arrived.
I ordered a platter of perfectly cooked meats with a side of cornbread, mashed potatoes and some of the best collard greens I’ve ever had. A portion of ribs, brisket, and pulled pork all doused in generous servings of sauce sat in front of me on these adorable camping plates. I have to admit, the plates made me downright giddy. I love camping plates and somehow they always manage to transport me right back to my childhood trips out in the Everglades.
Kenin ordered a platter fit to feed a dinosaur, ribs, sausage, and brisket with sides of chili and barbecued beans. Needless to say he couldn’t finish it all, but he put up quite a fight.
I’m pretty sure Kenin and I could have finished off our dinners had the waiter not shown up waving this under my nose. This was the dessert of the day, a chocolate cherry pie made fresh with fresh whipped cream. Just look at it! There are no words to describe how decadently fantastic this dessert was.
Needless to say, we are looking forward to our next trip to Syracuse so we can try some of the other dishes on the menu at Dinosaur.
