Oklahoma City knows how to entertain its guests. Whether you choose to stay in the heart of downtown at hotels such as the Courtyard by Marriott Oklahoma City Downtown or prefer cheap OKC hotels like the Howard Johnson Inn — Oklahoma City, the city’s abundant attractions ensure a memorable trip. Make sure that you include these six OKC hot spots in your travel plans.
The National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum
Located in the Adventure District, the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum is one of the city’s best-known attractions. Exhibitions vary throughout the year, but you can expect to discover gems such as “Cowboy Artists of America” and “Cowboys of Influence.” Adult tickets cost $12.50, although discounts are available for children, students, and seniors.
Bricktown Entertainment District
Once a thriving warehouse district, Bricktown has officially staked its claim as OKC’s entertainment hot spot. Stay at the Waterford Marriott Hotel and you will be within steps of the area’s abundant choice of restaurants, nightclubs, and shops. Get around the area on a horse-drawn carriage, on the Spirit of Oklahoma trolley, or by jumping aboard one of the water taxis.
Oklahoma City Zoo
Head to the zoo to meet some of OKC’s wilder residents. Say hello to grizzly bears Will and Wiley, get a closer look at a bobcat, or be charmed by the latest arrival in the gorilla enclosure. If you have kids with you, they will love to spend time in the interactive children’s museum. Adult entry to the zoo will set you back just $8.
Historic Stockyards City
Stockyards City is home to the world’s top livestock markets, but this historic neighborhood is about more than cattle auctions. Head over to discover an area of western heritage that will surprise and delight. Catch a Western show at the neighborhood’s Rodeo Opry or sample the menu at the iconic Cattlemen’s Steakhouse.
Science Museum Oklahoma
The Science Museum offers many exhibits such as Eye on the Sky and Destination Space, and several that are especially designed for children. When you have seen them all, check out one of the shows in the Dome Theater or the on-site Kirkpatrick Planetarium. An all-pass adult ticket will set you back $17.95.
Frontier City
Fancy a day of white-knuckle thrills? Head to Frontier City, where you can test your mettle on adrenaline-pumping rides such as Diamondback and Tumbleweed. If that all sounds a bit much, you can stick to child-friendly rides like the Grand Carousel and Quick Draw. Shows such as “Oklahoma Rising” and “Two John’s Saloon Revue” will also keep you entertained. Adult tickets cost $26.99.
