Getting away for a weekend of romance and relaxation should be on every couples’ list. We always have a little snafu when planning a weekend getaway. Our snafu has a name, and her name is Zoe, our 70 lb Weimaraner. While visiting Traverse City, Michigan we were looking forward to a weekend of fine dining and spa treatments, but no one wants to have to wake up early to walk the pooch and make sure she is fed and happy while also trying to enjoying a weekend of romance. The Grand Traverse Resort and Spa has an ace up there sleeve and treated us to a weekend we would never forget, Zoe included. We had a complete weekend of romance done right!
The Grand Traverse Resort and Spa has a beautiful, romance-saving, doggie daycare and boarding facility on their property called the Dog Dreams Inn. This is the ultimate getaway for your four-legged friend while you are on your own vacation. It’s a great place for dogs to enjoy a cage-free environment where they can play with others or just chill out on one of the many dog beds or sofas. Zoe throughly enjoyed her stay and we received a cute-as-buttons report card detailing her weekend adventures. Turns out Zoe is a diva and prefers to just follow the staff around begging for love as opposed to being an actual dog and playing with others.
Upon our arrival at the Grand Traverse resort, we found a warm and friendly staff and accommodations that were perfect for a romantic weekend getaway. We enjoyed a room in their luxuriously appointed tower with a king sized bed and a bathtub that was also fit for a royal couple.
While Zoe spent her time at the Dog Dreams Inn, Kenin and I indulged in a wonderful hot stone massage at the Grand Traverse Resort’s spa. We started our afternoon with a cocktail by the fireplace then made our way to our couples massage. The use of their sauna is also available for anyone that signs up for a spa service. We took full advantage of this before continuing on with our day.
The Grand Traverse Resort and Spa has a sister property a few minutes away called The Grand Turtle Casino. Our resort offered an extremely convenient shuttle service from our resort to the casino that ran every 1/2 hour to every hour. We jumped on board the shuttle and headed out to the casino for some drinks and games. This is a great service as far as Kenin was concerned because he is usually the designated driver and limits himself to one drink when he knows he has to drive. Tonight however, he could party like it was 1999 (aging myself with this reference).
Kenin and I reserved a table at Aerie Restaurant and Lounge on the resort’s 16th floor for a fantastic dinner and an incredible view to wrap up a perfectly relaxing day. We started off our evening the way every romantic evening should begin, with a bottle of wine and two of the largest glasses we could get our mitts on.
After polishing off a completely heavenly meal of dreamy scallops the size of tea saucers and mussels in a delicate tomato broth.
I decided to be selfish and order my all time favorite dessert, sticky toffee pudding. While Kenin loves a good pudding, he hates cherries (I know, I know…something is very wrong with him) and Aerie makes a delectable cherry sticky toffee pudding. I am not at all ashamed to say that I ate the whole thing all by myself. It was the perfect ending to an absolutely perfect meal and a great completion to a wonderfully romantic day.
The Grand Traverse Resort and Spa made our weekend stress-free and intimate. Every detail, including doggie care, was taken care of and we cannot wait to go back.
