Pack your bags. Prep your car. Plan your route, and see you in the Aussie Outback, mates.
There’s no denying that going on any trip can broaden one’s worldview. What better way to escape the daily grind and do a much-needed reprieve than to go to an epic road trip and explore the great Aussie Outback.
Now, for sure you will need a reliable set of wheels to get there. So, it’s a good idea to find a standard car hire before heading out to an adventure of a lifetime. So, without further delay, here are some of the best places that deserve a special spot on your travel bucket list.
Uluru
Also known as Ayers Rock, Uluru is the centerpiece of the Red Centre. Your epic journey to the Aussie Outback will not be complete without paying a visit to this awe-inspiring hotspot in the Northern Territory.
Uluru is a huge draw for travelers who want more than the usual tourist traps. Here, you can learn about the rich Indigenous heritage and culture. You won’t experience anything quite like the majestic sunrise and sunset that only Uluru can deliver.
Kata Tjuta
Also known as the Olgas, Kata Tjuta is another marvelous creation of nature. You can hike around its base or if you want a more unique experience, take a helicopter ride to get a spectacular view of these ancient rock formations.
Wycliffe Well
The Oz’s answer to Roswell and Area 51, Wycliffe Well is best known as the country’s UFO capital, thanks to the hundreds of UFO sightings reported for many years. The Well is shrouded in mystery because of the alleged strange and unexplained extraterrestrial activity.
Take a friend, and together, you can become a real-life Mulder and Scully team investigating all the news reports about mysterious alien encounters. The Well is a worthy destination, especially if you’re driving down the Stuart Highway, just 130 kilometers south of Tennant Creek.
The Devils Marbles
Don’t let the name creep you out. The Devils Marbles are massive granite boulders which can be found in the Northern Territory. Like Uluru, it is another geological wonder that you shouldn’t pass up. After you’ve stopped over Wycliffe Well, just drive up north to gaze upon the Devils Marbles.
These giant stones are unsteadily stacked up on top of one another. Perhaps, it’s why they are named as the Devils Marbles because they seem to defy the laws of gravity. These marbles are spread out on a vast valley, just 100 kilometers away south of Tennant Creek.
Coober Pedy
This quaint little town is located 846 km just north of the vibrant city of Adelaide. Coober Pedy is best known for being the opal capital of the world as it supplies roughly 70 percent of this beautiful and precious gemstone.
During the summer, a majority of this mining town’s residents live underground to avoid the scorching heat. If you want to get an idea what it’s like to live underground, just visit Faye’s Underground Home, which was personally dug by three determined women during the 1960s.
It’s easy to get caught up with all the amazing destinations which you can only find in the Australian Outback. However, don’t forget to take a break during your travels, relax, and visit a random pub. This is a good way to taste authentic Aussie Outback cuisine, meet some of the locals, and learn more about the region.
