If you’re like me, you’ve gotten pretty good about backing in and out of your parking space, or driveway, at home, at work, at the supermarket, the gym – you get the point. Driving to and from familiar places – you know what to look out for, it becomes practically an instinct.

What about when you’re on a road trip though an unfamiliar locale? Instead of your familiar parking spaces, now you’re backing out of hotel parking lots, diners, rest stops, etc. Not to mention that there are more distractions around you than you’re accustomed to normally.

 

 

If you’re driving a newer car, great – you probably have a built-in backup camera, along with proximity sensors, and if you’re really fancy – you may have a car that will back out for you – on it’s own. If that’s the case – this article may not be of much interest to you.

However – for those of us driving vehicles that are a bit older, and lack many of the driver-assist bells and whistles – there is a gadget that I’ve recently come across, that literally watches your back while you come out of parking space throughout your road-trip route.

This gadget – a detachable, wireless back up camera, is essentially a high tech upgrade for your lower-tech vehicle. It performs all the same functions that a built-in back up camera does, in the newer vehicles, however some of the models come with a pretty cool twist – the monitor attaches to your mirror! So instead of looking down at the center console as is the case with most built-in back-up cameras, you can just look into your rearview mirror as you would – instinctively, while backing up.

Just something to consider when preparing for your next road trip.
