All travelers have that moment, you’re in the middle of a foreign country, you’re language guide book is no where to be found, you’re in a shop or in the middle of the street, you work up the courage to ask a local a question in their native tongue, and then they either stare back at you with a look of puzzlement, laugh, or worse get very very angry. We’ve all had those lost in translation moments from time to time. My worst moment was the time that I walked into a store in Mexico, and in Spanish, politely asked the clerk to help me locate some eggs. Unfortunately the word I used, literally translated to a part of the male genitalia. To this moment I’m not sure which memory sticks in my mind the best: my own embarrassment, the look of shock and disgust on the woman’s face behind me in line, or the raucous laughter of the clerk. With that in mind I thought it would be fun to share this infographic with some hilariously ” lost in translation ” moments courtesy of iDBUS coach travel.
