Lauren Bassart
Hi! I am Lauren Bassart. I was born in the Caribbean on the island of Trinidad. I moved to America when I was 10, I’m pretty certain that this was the start of my lifelong wanderlust. I am now very proud to be an American and call America my home.
I met my husband in Hollywood, Fl about 12 years ago and we have been happily married for the past 9. Since the moment we met, I’ve dreamed of of having him by my side, day in and day out , unfortunately work doesn’t allow such things, especially when you work in retail.
Ken and I have had 17 different address since we met. I have had the pleasure of meeting many different people from many different cultures and walks of life because of this. I try to keep all of these people in my life so I am sure there will be many of them here and there in our blog. Ken’s work, however, has made it almost impossible for me to ever really hold down a proper job, so I have spent my time being a supportive spouse instead. I took care of our home and finances and started building a foundation for us while he worked. This sadly starts to take a toll on any marriage and we both came to the conclusion that we needed a change. I saw my husband infrequently and spent most holidays and weekends with friends instead of family. This was never what I wanted out of my life.
I have always been a subscriber to the motto “Go big or go home!” I am a dreamer at heart and I believe in love conquering all. I started my marriage at a very early age, 21, and I have big dreams of spending my time enjoying my spouse. I have been extremely fortunate to have a husband that shares that vision. I also have an unbreakable network of friends and family that support me in my dreams of grandeur.
With the support of everyone in our lives, Ken and I decided to take some time off from the rat race and refocus on what should be important in life…family and love! Ken left his job and we planned a 30 day road trip. It also turned out to land on my 30th birthday.
We enjoy nothing more than packing up our things, whether planned or very last minute and hitting the road. It doesn’t matter if it is by plane, boat, or automobile, we like to travel and we like to do it the scenic way. If there is a back road, we will take it! You never meet friendly faces on the highway but I can’t tell you how many random friends and cool places we encounter on the byways. We started our epic journey and met up with friends and family along the way. We found out many things about ourselves and about each other. We’ve strengthened our bond beyond anything I could ever imagine (over 30 days in a car, less than 5 feet from someone can make or break you). I came to the realization that you can’t ever get what you dream of, unless you go out there and get it. Our journey turned out to be longer and better than anything I could ever dream and I thought it would be amazing to share some of this with the world. Enjoy!

Great background Lauren, nice to read more about you.
Wow ! Hi Lauren we have much in common. I too am from Trinidad and Just returned last summer from a road trip from Miami FL to the Arctic circle via Fairbanks Alaska. At Coldfoot I was advised not to try to reach Dead horse due to road conditions by the locals. I traveled 11k+ miles in 6 weeks by myself in a minivan with 192k miles when I left Miami on the speedo. Yeah I also am living in Miami Gardens.
Hey Chesterfield,
What a small world! We’re not in South Florida at the moment, but we’d love to meet up sometime. Touch base with us on Facebook and we;ll see if we can cross paths somewhere :-)
