We started our day off groggy again, but much better rested than the last time we pulled an overnighter. This time we slept in an actual official rest area as opposed to a truckers pull over. We were very eager to get going despite the fact that it was just after 6:00 AM. You see, we had another date with the Pacific Coast and more importantly we were going to finally get to see the redwoods. We’ve wanted to see the redwoods for countless years, but never had the occasion. Now we had all day to cover just 428 miles so we could take our time and see the giants in person. We cranked up our Seattle inspired grunge playlist to get our blood going and sped on our merry way.

Road Trip from Seattle to Oregon – Driving the Coast – Diary Day 13
We decided to do another 2-day “car only” segment when we left on our road trip from Seattle to Oregon. We were on or way down to Oakland, CA and eventually LA. We made it a point to drive down the Pacific Coast as much as possible. We went without a hotel this time to avoid paying for a Saturday night stay and to make up for some of the high spending we did in Seattle. Plus, it’s fun to rough it a bit and we’ve been pretty comfortable this trip. We logged 937 miles in two days and saw some of the most amazing coastline we’ve ever seen (and we’ve seen a lot of beaches!). If we did it again, we could probably spend a week driving here and still not get enough of it! Continue reading
Road Trip from Montana to Seattle Washington – Diary Day 11
I woke up to the sound of blaring horns, with cramps in both my legs and a sore back. Took me a minute to figure out where I was. Oh Yeah, I’m parked in a rest stop in the middle of Montana. We spent the night sleeping in the car with the dogs. No road trip is complete without a night in the car, hunched over the steering wheel in a sleeping bag. Warning! This is not something that should be done by the faint hearted. But I consider it mandatory if you haven’t done it since you were 20. It’s a right of passage for road trippers. We had to get ourselves from the middle of nowhere Montana to Seattle. It was going to be a long day… Continue reading
Road Trip Salt Lake City to The “Middle of Nowhere, MT” – Diary Day 10
Today began day one of a two day stretch with no stopping in a hotel. Since we decided to stay in Keystone an extra day we killed our other reservations and we (Lauren) decided that the trip had been too “structured” to date. I was happy to give it a whirl and see what came up. I jotted down a of couple notes on paper, regarding our route, and headed out. We were to be electronics free for this drive (with the exception of our camera of course). We ended up driving 626 miles from Salt Lake City to Montana, and ended up cutting through Idaho. We also saw some of the coolest terrain ever at The Craters of the Moon, drove through a town of 28 called Atomic City, got hit by a dust storm, learned what a scarp is, and drove through a canyon.
Road Trip from St. Louis to Denver- Diary Day 6
Uugghh, our day started at 3:30AM so we could drive 946 miles, for 15 hours. I don’t know what I was thinking planning our road trip from St. Louis to Denver (technically Keystone) in one day, but I guess it had to be done! What’s a road trip without a couple of days of driving ’til the old eyes feel like they’re gonna bleed? Don’t ask Lauren though, she spent most of her time napping while I rocked out to my playlist inspired by Led Zeppelin’s Ramble On (who knew the song would become the soundtrack to our new blog? ) and stared at more corn fields than I ever knew existed.
