I woke up the morning we had to leave New Orleans with a sense of impending doom. We were leaving the seediness and debauchery that we enjoyed so much in NOLA, and heading towards the wholesome goodness that is visiting my father. I had a heavy heart that morning, because I hadn’t spoken to him once since I had quit my job and started aimlessly driving around the country. I knew that my visit to the gulf coast and Pensacola wouldn’t be filled with the partying and drinking or solitude of nature I preferred on vacation, but rather serious talks and reflection.

Road Trip Diary Days 29 & 30 San Antonio to New Orleans
Leaving San Antonio was a bit heart-breaking for us. After spending 4 days with Mike, Blythe and Prince Leon, it was very hard to leave. I was pretty shocked at how quickly my nephew became the center of our long weekend and was sad to leave him. It really helps that we will see him again in a few days, but more on that later. The upside to the day was the fact that by this evening we’d be enjoying food and drink in New Orleans.

Coop’s Place New Orleans – Review
While walking the streets of New Orleans you’re bound to work up quite the appetite. While visiting any city we always ask the locals where to eat, and while shopping in the French Quarter we were sent to Coop’s Place New Orleans. Coop’s is restaurant and pub (with just a touch of “dive bar” flavor), but also has a few video poker machines, so it is 21 and over only. For us, it was a nice place to have lunch in a kid free zone even though the ubiquitous frat boys(and sorority sisters) were present. Continue reading below to see why Coop’s made our list of where to eat in NOLA.
