If you’re planning on taking a drive to Alaska there are only a couple direct driving routes that will take you there. You can either drive the Cassiar Highway, which is a small mostly rural route, or drive the Alaska Canada Highway (aka the Al-Can), which is a slightly larger, slightly less rural route. :-) No matter which way you go you’ll be guaranteed two things: several days of non-stop driving, and miles of wide open spaces. Since we had the opportunity to make the drive last fall we decided to put together this handy dandy guide and road trip planner for driving the Alaska-Canada Highway.

Visiting the Georgia Aquarium In Atlanta
Kenin and I had the absolute pleasure of visiting the Georgia Aquarium while in Atlanta last fall. I wanted to visit the aquarium when it first opened in 2005, but something always seemed to get in the way. Nothing was going to stop me from seeing the whale sharks and manta rays on this trip. I woke up early and was ready to go before Kenin even had his first cup of coffee. Georgia Aquarium here I come!

Occasionally though we get lucky and find a place that offers fantastic drives and the opportunity to really get in touch with Mother Nature. Glacier National Park happens to be one of those places. If you are planning a road trip anywhere near Northern Montana, make sure to include Glacier National Park in your itinerary. It’s one of the most unique National Parks in the US and easily sits near the top of my list of favorites.

Bald Eagles – America’s National Bird in Valdez, Alaska

While entering the city, after crossing through Thompson’s Pass, we came across hundreds of bald eagles nesting in trees and fishing in the streams. It was very easy to see why these are America’s national bird. They are so majestic. There were so many of them, we just had to stop and take it all in.
