Few periods in America’s history are as fascinating as The Civil War.
It began on April 12, 1861 and not only divided a nation, but split families apart too with neighbors, friends and even brothers fighting against one another, such was the passion for their cause.
From the moment we started looking into the best places to eat in Minneapolis, one name started coming up over and over again: Hell’s Kitchen. Located in the basement level of a skyscraper (where else would Hell be? ) in downtown Minneapolis, this restaurant has been a local staple of the Twin Cities’ food scene since the doors opened over a decade ago. When you look at the restaurant, with its heavy over the top kitsch decor you have to ask yourself: Is this all style or is there substance? Well we decided to descend into the depths to find out.
While road tripping the craft brew trail in Louisiana, Kenin and I came upon a historic ice cream parlor on Johnston Street in Lafayette. This historic ice cream shoppe was built in 1940 and is the last one of Borden’s retail stores that is still left standing. We did the only thing we could, pulled in, parked the car and went in to see what it was all about.
When seeking out a pet-friendly hotel in a larger city like Baltimore your choices are usually pretty limited, and quite frankly not very attractive. Most pet friendly hotels usually go the budget route and make you feel like you and your pet are second class citizens, or charge you some exorbitantly high pet fee that makes staying there a burden. Thankfully, Starwood Hotels has put together a chain of hotels that changes all of that. We visited the Aloft hotel in the Arundel Mills area of Baltimore and found a hotel that was hip, high class, full of flair and pet friendly.
Louisiana is one of our favorite states. We go back again and again and are always surprised by how much we missed in the last times we visited. The state always has new things to offer and excite us. Louisiana is one of those places we visit that always feels like a non-stop party while still managing to feel warm and comfortably like home.
