Today began day one of a two day stretch with no stopping in a hotel. Since we decided to stay in Keystone an extra day we killed our other reservations and we (Lauren) decided that the trip had been too “structured” to date. I was happy to give it a whirl and see what came up. I jotted down a of couple notes on paper, regarding our route, and headed out. We were to be electronics free for this drive (with the exception of our camera of course). We ended up driving 626 miles from Salt Lake City to Montana, and ended up cutting through Idaho. We also saw some of the coolest terrain ever at The Craters of the Moon, drove through a town of 28 called Atomic City, got hit by a dust storm, learned what a scarp is, and drove through a canyon.

Road Trip Denver to Salt Lake City – Diary Day 9
Today was a bittersweet day for us. I was sad to leave Colorado, because it felt so homey there, but I was also eager to keep heading west on our road trip and explore a bit more. Last night it snowed at the mountain peaks in Keystone, which was absolutely amazing to me. It was a truly memorable sendoff. I thought we were going to be in for a dreadful and boring trip through the country side, but I was hugely mistaken. We cranked out 520 miles on our road trip from Denver to Salt Lake City, had the iPod tuned to Cake, and saw some pretty amazing sites.
Prairie Dog?
We saw this litte guy right under the Welcome to Utah sign. Prairie Dog!?!
Punkin tried to convince me that he was all the prairie dog I needed. :) He might be right about that matter.
