Traveling with our dog Zoe is one of the best things about slow travel. She goes everywhere with us and loves visiting new places and people just as much as we do. Unfortunately, Zoe is now over 13 years old and traveling for her is not as easy as it used to be. This however, does not mean that she can’t travel with us. There are some simple steps to take to make sure that she is still happy and comfortable and enjoying her time exploring the world with us.
Rapid City in South Dakota is one of our favorite places to visit. We have been there a few times and always have a ton of fun. We always take our weimaraner Zoe with us when we visit because it’s also a very pet-friendly town and Zoe travels with us wherever we go. Luckily, we have found several places that allow us to vacation with our dog and the Best Western Ramkota Hotel made for amazing pet friendly fun in Rapid City.
One of my biggest pet peeves when traveling are hotel rooms that are just too tiny to really enjoy. It’s a bit ironic when you consider that Lauren and I live out of a 2-door hatchback, but when I check into a hotel, I want to feel like I can spread out and relax while also enjoying some of the usual amenities from “home”. Well I think I hit the suite spot when I checked into the residential suites at the GrandStay in Rapid City, SD.
The word love isn’t one that I toss around lightly. I don’t spend a lot of time telling people that I “loved” this movie or really “loved” this new restaurant. It’s just not in my nature. I reserve the word for things that I hold in extremely high regard. Well, after staying at the Aloft Hotel in Calgary, I’m ready to pronounce that I’ve absolutely fallen in love with this hotel brand. It’s not just me that feels this way either: Zoe would tell you the same thing (if you could wake her up :-) )
There are a lot of great dog boarding facilities and doggy daycare services out there, but personally I always feel more comfortable when I can have someone take care of Zoe in the comfort of our own or someone else’s home. The trouble with in home sitting though, is that it can be really difficult to find a trustworthy and reliable pet sitter.
