Taking a road trip is single handily the best way to visit a new country. It gives you the ability to connect with the locals, control your itinerary, and see much more than you would hopping from airport to airport. If you’re planning a trip to Spain heading out to Ibiza is an absolute must. While it is an infamous party island there is much more going on than all night raves and partying. Here are some great ideas for some places to visit while road tripping Ibiza.
The first thing you’ll have to do is hire a car while in Ibiza. I recommend getting something like a jeep or a truck in case you find your self wanting to explore a backroad or rural area.
Beaches
Visit Cala Benirras for beautiful clear water and a great trip for a couple or families. This old fishing town is a road trip must since it features over 300 meters of beautiful sand and pebble beaches to soak up the sun. If you’re feeling active, snorkeling is definitely recommended as the beautiful waters of Benirras are crystal clear.
Culture
Visit the Necropolis del Puig des Molins. With tombs as old at the seventh century BC you’ll be astounded by the tombs of the ancient Phoenicians. You can take a look at the museum on site and see artifacts and figurines from the tombs. If you’re feeling adventurous you can even descend into one of the burial caverns for an up-close look.
Hippy Markets
Visit Santa Eularia for a great old town and take some time to explore Ibiza’s famous Hippy markets. Started in the ’60s, these markets feature painters, artisans, and designers that were drawn to Ibiza’s unique atmosphere. There are two major markets in the area the Punta Arabi and the Las Dalias. It’s an absolute must for anyone interested in locally made crafts such as clothing, jewelry, and artifacts.
A road trip through Ibiza is sure to include lots of fun and adventure no matter where you visit. Just make sure to plan your route carefully and leave lots of time to enjoy all the local culture has to offer.
