Other than being knows as Pennsylvania’s state capitol, the city of Harrisburg isn’t exactly known as a popular travel destination. Hershey, PA on the other hand immediately conjures up visions of chocolate kisses dancing in the streets and is well-known for its theme park and other tourism friendly attractions. The funny part is that the two cities are only about 20 minutes apart from each other and both offer lots of fun and interesting attractions. With that in mind, we’ve put together the Ramblin’ Hershey Harrisburg travel guide that covers everything we think you should take in when visiting these two great cities.
Zoos – My Internal Struggle: Conservation vs. Captivity #RambleOn
I have an extreme love/hate relationship with zoos and their existence. I love animals! There is no doubt about that. I love all animals (even snakes, though it has to be from a distance). Throughout our travels, I almost always make it a point to stop at a local zoo or wildlife center. I’ve even visited some farms and animal sanctuaries. I am a huge advocate of the preservation and conservation of all animals. Where does my struggle stem from then? Well, I don’t know how right it is to keep animals in captivity.
It’s Classic Car Mania at the AACA Museum Hershey, PA
As a passionate lover of all things automotive, one of my favorite finds in any city I visit is a good car museum. There’s nothing like taking a stroll through America’s rich automotive history, and who better to curate a car museum than the Antique Automobile Club of America. Featuring a wide range of automobiles and other automotive memorabilia, a day at the AACA Museum Hershey, is an absolute must if you are in the Hershey – Harrisburg area.
Committed – You Know I’m Crazy (about my dog).
People ask us all the time why we don’t frequently travel outside of North America. There is a pretty simple answer to this, yet people find it hard to wrap their minds around it. We made a commitment. What is a commitment? Well, it’s a state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity, etc., and I made a commitment to my pet(s).
It Turns Out Virginia IS for Lovers – A Romantic Getaway in Abingdon, VA
I wouldn’t say that you’d ever describe either of us ramblers as “country folk”. Our preferred vacation destinations normally include big city staples like sky scrapers, anonymity, and lots of variety. Every once in a while though, it’s good to go outside of your typical comfort zone and give a different kind of destination a try. When we (Zoe included of course) were invited to spend a weekend on a romantic getaway in Abingdon, Virginia. We jumped at the shot to try something new to us, and discovered that sometimes a little country is just what the doctor ordered.
