Growing up in the prairies of Central Canada, my family was no stranger to the road trip. Living in the middle of nowhere meant we had to pack a lunch to drive just about anywhere. That’s probably why when Micki and I had the chance to spend a few months in Spain and Portugal with our two kids that we chose to rent a car and go on a road trip rather than taking the train or hopping on a plane.
Every city has it’s iconic restaurant that is known for having just that right combination of romantic atmosphere and excellent food. In the Harrisburg area of Pennsylvania that restaurant is Char’s at the Tracy Mansion.
While dining out Lauren and I always make it a point to share our food. Whether it’s just the two of us, or a group of friends, we feel that family style dining is always a better way to try new things and bring variety to the meal. Well what do you do when you want to eat family style but there’s only two of you? What if you could enjoy a collection of small entrees designed for sharing that went beyond the typical Spanish styled tapas? Well that’s exactly what you’ll find at Tango Bistro in Calgary.
Road trips. For many travelers they are the ultimate reason to go abroad, but even if you are traveling full-time there are always plenty of opportunities in the area where you live where you can enjoy some of the off the beaten path sites, all from the comfort of your chosen ride.
As full-time travelers we normally strive to stay in unique or specialty style hotels. Let’s face it though, more often than not we usually end up staying in a chain hotel. When this happens, it’s usually a pretty generic experience that’s more “meh” than “yay!” Recently however, we had the opportunity to stay in the Pet Friendly Harrisburg Holiday Inn Express while visiting, PA. I’m happy to report that we had a warm, friendly, and positive experience that exceeded our expectations and Zoe’s as well.
