While walking the streets of New Orleans you’re bound to work up quite the appetite. While visiting any city we always ask the locals where to eat, and while shopping in the French Quarter we were sent to Coop’s Place New Orleans. Coop’s is restaurant and pub (with just a touch of “dive bar” flavor), but also has a few video poker machines, so it is 21 and over only. For us, it was a nice place to have lunch in a kid free zone even though the ubiquitous frat boys(and sorority sisters) were present. Continue reading below to see why Coop’s made our list of where to eat in NOLA.
Coop’s Place New Orleans Review
Coop’s Place New Orleans had a great selection of both draft and bottled beers. As well as a full liquor bar. After walking in and being seated we noticed a great smoky aroma and were told they actually have a smoker out back and make their own tasso throughout the day. The tasso is used in their often raved about rabbit and sausage jambalaya.
We tend to share everything, so we ordered a couple appetizers including a cup of red beans and rice and some lamb ribs. We aslo shared an enormous shrimp and crawfish po-boy! The lamb ribs were delicate and tender and well seasoned. The real stand out here was the fact that Coop’s also makes their own red pepper jelly, great stuff!
The Po-Boy and red beans with rice were both delicious as well, although the bread was a little tough on the sandwich which was disappointing.
The food was delivered quickly and hot, and the service was solid. If you’re looking for somewhere to stop off and eat that’ll give you some great NOLA cooking and a few drinks at a reasonable price, Coop’s Place New Orleans is the place.
