Road trips are opportunities for adventure to happen. No matter the distance you’re traveling, adventure awaits you from the time you leave for the trip, to the time you arrive at your destination.
The success of a road trip is really dependent upon the people going on the road trip. Some people are just not road trip people, while others love it. Word of advice… if you want to enjoy your road trip, travel with people who also enjoy road trips!
Summer months are really the best times of the year to go on road trips. Summer road trips are almost as common as summer cookouts, in the aspect of you know it’s going to happen and you know you’re going to want to go! With road trips being so popular, there are definitely some important aspects to going to and coming from road trips that you must take into consideration before getting behind the wheel.
Car Insurance
You can’t legally drive around your town without car insurance, let alone driving across the country without it! Going on a road trip without car insurance just isn’t smart or safe. How many times have you seen cars stopped on the side of the road? You might not know what happened, but you probably hoped they had car insurance to help get them out of that situation.
There are so many risks attached to driving that making sure you’re covered is a must. Emergencies on the road can range anywhere from needing lockout assistance, changing a flat tire, running out of gas, or getting in a car accident. With a car accident, you not only want to have car insurance, but you also want to have legal representative behind you to take care of any worry and stress resulting from your accident.
Enough Snacks
You absolutely cannot go on a road trip without snacks! Whether it’s chips, cookies, candy bars, or sodas, it needs to be on the trip! Also, when it comes to road trips, healthy goes out the window. You can have healthy snacks/fast food if you choose, but road trips kind of give you that pass to break away from healthy eating habits… just make sure you pack enough!
GPS
Knowing where you’re going is an important part of road tripping too, although, some people go on road trips where they just hop in the car and drive wherever adventure leads them! That’s a fun mindset to have with road trips but most people have a specific destination they’re traveling to, and oftentimes need to know how to get there.
Not too long ago, road trips required maps if you didn’t know how to get to where you were going. Then there was this famous website that came out called Mapquest, that completely changed road trips. All you had to do was put in your “from and to” destinations, and Mapquest would “map out” your trip. You just needed to print it out and follow the directions.
Nowadays, you can find people utilizing a GPS system in their car or on their phone. Either way, you have to know where you’re going, and if you don’t, your GPS will get you there in a snap!
Entertainment
Entertainment, or lack thereof, can really make or break any road trip. Whether it’s a book, cell phone, laptop or tablet make sure you have it with you on your trip. Books can take you into another world as you are physically traveling to a different world. It can definitely be a great distraction away from how long the trip actually is as well as the all-famous “are we there yet?” questions that everybody wonders, but is nervous to ask.
This should probably go unmentioned, but for those who are forgetful, make sure you bring the proper chargers for your electronic devices. Your chargers are essentially what keeps those devices alive for your trip, so forgetting them is a big no-no. Also, you don’t want to forget your headphones. This keeps you from disturbing others of your idea of entertainment. Headphones are especially important when keeping the driver in mind. The driver is who’s getting you to the destination, so you don’t want to be a distraction to them.
Excitement
This aspect of the road trip starts with you. Everyone going on the road trip is who sets the tone and mood of the trip. If everyone is in a down mood, it can bring everyone down, even the happiest of travelers can get a mood shift from one negative person. Everyone should be in a good mood when it comes to road trips mainly because you’re getting away! The destination alone should get you excited! So do everyone a favor before your next road trip, and put a smile on your face, and set the tone for fun!
