It’s no surprise that Lauren and I are fans of the strange and slightly macabre. Throughout the course of our travels in the US we’ve visited odd art museums, road side attractions, and even an abandoned amusement park. With that in mind I decided to look into what some of the strangest museums in Europe had to offer.
While doing my research I stumbled across this article of the most unusual museums in Europe, and was delighted to find that there are plenty of places to satisfy my morbid curiosity. Here are a few that stood out as favorites.
Corpus Museum
Perhaps the strangest on the list, the Corpus Museum in the Netherlands, is a fully immersive experience where visitors actually walk through the human body. With exhibits that take you everywhere from the mouth to the digestive track, it’s definitely one of the strangest places I’ve ever seen. Be warned though, if you are traveling with a family, children under 6 are not permitted.
Iceland Phallological Museum
If your interest in anatomy goes much further than just the human body, then you had better check out this museum in Iceland. Featuring a specimen of nearly every mammal phallus, it gives every visitor an opportunity to see how they stack up to the rest of the animal kingdom.
Currywurst Museum
If food is more your thing, check out this entire museum dedicated to the German fast food. Featuring exhibits that cover the history of currywurst as well as an opportunity to have a taste, this is a must visit if you ever find yourself in Berlin.
Mini Bottle Museum
What started off an one man’s obsession has turned into a museum in Oslo, Norway. Featuring a massive collection of mini bottles sorted by size and color, the Mini Bottle Museum is sure to make you think twice about discarding bottles from the mini bar. The best part? There’s a slide on the way out :-)
These are just a few of my favorites, as there are too many strange museums to list all across Europe. If you are planning a trip to Europe, you should consult with Scenic Tours as they can arrange trips to all these strange museums as well as other popular attractions.
