Tucked into a mountainside between the small towns of Boone and Blowing Rock, North Carolina is a great little hidden gem called Tweetsie Railroad. Stepping through its entry gates immediately takes you back to a time of gold prospectors, steam engines, and horse-drawn carriages. It’s a great day of fun with something to do for every age group, and as an added bonus Tweetsie Railroad is dog friendly too!
My favorite time of the year is right around the corner. That’s right folks, Fall! I love so many things about fall, the colors, the smells, the foods, but most of all, I love Halloween! Everyone that knows me knows that I love to dress up and go out dancing. Halloween is the perfect excuse for me to do this. I get giddy when I see my friends out there planning their costumes for weeks and some of my more committed friends plan for months. Everyone gets to be part of their very own fairy tale if only for one day. One of my favorite things to do during the day (before the clubs are open) is find a local Halloween parade for pets. :D I like taking Zoe down to a local festival and watching all the cute pets on parade in their colorful pet costumes. Road tripping with our dog Zoe is our absolute favorite thing to do. We love taking her hiking and swimming and playing in the park. She leads a pretty glamorous life. There’s nothing I love more than visiting a beach or lakeshore when I travel. Growing up on Cape Breton Island, I was surrounded by some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and they were an important part of my life in all seasons. Windswept winter walks, early autumn shell collecting, ice cream filled summer afternoons, and late spring bonfires are the scenes of my childhood.
It’s only natural that when Ryan and I adopted our beloved black lab mix, Chester, we expected him to be a water baby as well. Don’t all dogs love the water? And he’s (well, mostly) a lab – those webbed paws are perfect for some ocean fun! Much to our surprise, however, Chester seemed hesitant and, well, downright uncertain during his first few times to the lake.
Dog car safety is an important topic for us here at The Constant Rambler. Our dogs have spent countless hours in the back of our VW GTI as we’ve driven back and forth across the country. For many years we, like many other dog owners, just let them roam around in the back seat (or wherever else they felt like plopping). Recently though, due to a heightened awareness of the issue, we’ve come to realize that not only is it unsafe to our dogs, it’s also unsafe for us humans to let them do that. We’re now out on a mission to increase dog car safety, by highlighting products and companies that are making it easier and safer to harness your pets in the car. We recently had the opportunity to test out the Tru-Fit Smart Harness and Auto Zip Line from Kurgo and were pretty happy with the results.
