I wouldn’t say that you’d ever describe either of us ramblers as “country folk”. Our preferred vacation destinations normally include big city staples like sky scrapers, anonymity, and lots of variety. Every once in a while though, it’s good to go outside of your typical comfort zone and give a different kind of destination a try. When we (Zoe included of course) were invited to spend a weekend on a romantic getaway in Abingdon, Virginia. We jumped at the shot to try something new to us, and discovered that sometimes a little country is just what the doctor ordered.

Why Everyone Should Visit Midtown Scholar Bookstore in Harrisburg, PA
When visiting Harrisburg, PA, several locals recommended we check out the Midtown Scholar Bookstore. We love reading and bookstores are somewhere Kenin and I both use for solitary recreation. All this being said, I wasn’t sure why such a huge deal was being made about this place. Most bookstores are pretty similar, books, comfy chairs, maybe a cafe to grab a cup of coffee. What would set Midtown Scholar Bookstore so far apart that it would be recommended to “tourists” like us?
Aloft Hotels: Hip, Cool, and Dog Friendly!
With so many hotel chains all over the US, it’s rare that you’ll ever hear me say that there’s room for another company to build and launch a whole new brand. Shockingly though, Starwood Hotels did just that with their newest brand, aloft hotels. What’s even more surprising is that they actually succeeded to build a chain of hotels that gives you something more than just a place to stay, but a sense of place. Combine that with the fact that the whole chain is dog friendly with no crazy pet fees or deposits, and it’s no wonder we felt like we just had to visit and review an aloft hotel and share it with the world.
Rootin’ Tootin’ Fun at the Tweetsie Railroad in North Carolina
Tucked into a mountainside between the small towns of Boone and Blowing Rock, North Carolina is a great little hidden gem called Tweetsie Railroad. Stepping through its entry gates immediately takes you back to a time of gold prospectors, steam engines, and horse-drawn carriages. It’s a great day of fun with something to do for every age group, and as an added bonus Tweetsie Railroad is dog friendly too!
Pets on Parade – Colorful Pet Costumes For Your Furry Friends
My favorite time of the year is right around the corner. That’s right folks, Fall! I love so many things about fall, the colors, the smells, the foods, but most of all, I love Halloween! Everyone that knows me knows that I love to dress up and go out dancing. Halloween is the perfect excuse for me to do this. I get giddy when I see my friends out there planning their costumes for weeks and some of my more committed friends plan for months. Everyone gets to be part of their very own fairy tale if only for one day. One of my favorite things to do during the day (before the clubs are open) is find a local Halloween parade for pets. :D I like taking Zoe down to a local festival and watching all the cute pets on parade in their colorful pet costumes. Here are some of my favorite colorful pet costume ideas for your furry friends.
