Thanks to a warm subtropical climate and extensive white sand beaches, it is no real surprise that Myrtle Beach hosts over 14 million visitors annually. But together with the balmy temperatures and alluring coastline, this city also boasts an abundance of tourist attractions and activities.
So, if you were to make a booking at one of the various hotels in Myrtle Beach, what sort of things can you see and do?
Go Fishing!
With immediate access to the Atlantic Ocean in addition to various creeks and channels that make their way inland, saltwater fishing is a popular activity in Myrtle Beach. You can hire equipment from local bait and tackle shops or sign up to a deep-sea charter fishing trip.
But if you would prefer to steer clear of the open water, you can also go fishing on the Intracoastal Waterway, which runs parallel to the coast from Little River to Socastee.
Take a Stroll Down the Oceanfront Boardwalk
From the 14th Avenue to 2nd Avenue Piers you will find a 1.2 mile-long promenade, which provides superb views of the pristine beach and stunning ocean. During the summer, the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk also plays host to a variety of festivals and events.
If you’re not going in summer, there are year-round attractions to take advantage of. Such as the Nightmare Haunted House, Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Odditorium, and SkyWheel Myrtle Beach, the latter of which is the first observation wheel of its kind in the United States.
Explore Brookgreen Gardens
At Brookgreen Gardens, both young and old can learn about art, history, and tour the zoo. This much-loved attraction displays figurative sculptures by American artists and is home to various native creatures of the South Carolina Lowcountry.
But along with the tours and exhibits on offer, make sure you take a cruise on its 48-foot pontoon boat, which sails past historic rice fields that are now home to alligator, waterfowl, and osprey.
Participate in Some Exhilarating Watersports
You really are spoiled for choice when it comes to watersports and aquatic adventures in Myrtle Beach. But instead of going on a laid-back boat ride or kayaking along the calm creeks, why not try a more exhilarating activity?
Options include parasailing, jet skiing, scuba diving, and surfing. Even if you are a beginner, tour operators can cater for all abilities to ensure you are safe when trying these sports.
Chill out at the Beach
In spite of its extensive attractions and activities, Myrtle Beach’s greatest attribute is fairly obvious. With 60 miles of sand in front of you, the temptation to stay at the beach all day will be overbearing.
Just remember to apply sunscreen with a high SPF rating and always obey the local beach ordinances. Along many of the Grand Strand beaches, lifeguards will be on duty should you want added peace of mind.
But the only problem you are likely to encounter on a trip to Myrtle Beach is finding the time to fit everything in!
